  • C17H23NO3 · H2SO4

Mechanism of Action:

  • Atropine is a competitive antagonist for the muscarinic acetylcholine receptors.

  • It blocks the action of acetylcholine at parasympathetic sites in smooth muscle, secretory glands, and the CNS.

Uses:

  • It is used to treat bradycardia, reduce salivation and bronchial secretions before surgery, and as an antidote for cholinergic poisoning.

Side Effects:

  • Side effects include dry mouth, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, lack of sweating, dizziness, nausea, loss of balance, and allergic reactions.
