  • Bethanechol is a cholinomimetic drug that specifically targets muscarinic receptors, leading to parasympathetic-like effects.

Uses:

  • It's used to treat urinary retention by stimulating the bladder to contract, and also used for the investigation of gastric secretory function.

Side Effects:

  • Side effects can include abdominal discomfort or pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and sweating.
