Mechanism of action:
Capreomycin is a cyclic peptide antibiotic that binds to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit in bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis.
Uses:
Capreomycin is used in combination with other antitubercular drugs for the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).
Side effects:
Side effects can include ototoxicity (hearing loss and vertigo), nephrotoxicity, electrolyte disturbances (e.g., hypokalemia
