CPCSEA Guidelines for Breeding and Stocking of Animals

  • The Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) is a statutory body established under the Act to monitor animal care and use in research.

Key Guidelines of CPCSEA:

Housing and Maintenance:

  • Animals must be provided with adequate space, clean environment, and nutrition.

  • Ventilation, lighting, and temperature control must be maintained.

Breeding Facilities:

  • Breeding centers must be registered and meet CPCSEA standards for hygiene, record-keeping, and veterinary care.

Stocking and Identification:

  • Animals should be tagged or marked properly for identification.

  • Records of animals’ health, breeding, and usage must be documented.

Transportation Guidelines:

  • Animals should be transported with minimal stress and adequate ventilation.

Veterinary Care:

  • Qualified veterinarians should monitor the health of animals and provide medical care if required.
