Mechanism of Action:

  • Delavirdine is an NNRTI that works against HIV.

  • Similar to loviride, delavirdine binds to a distinct site on the reverse transcriptase enzyme, inhibiting the enzyme's activity and preventing viral replication.

Uses:

  • Delavirdine is used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs to treat HIV infection.

Side Effects:

Some common side effects of delavirdine include:

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhea

  • Serious side effects may include:
