Double Cone Blender

Principles of Double Cone Blender:

  • The Double Cone Blender operates on the principle of tumbling action.

  • It achieves mixing by rotating a conical vessel, causing the contents to continuously fall and disperse, promoting thorough intermixing of the particles.

Construction:

  1. Vessel: Comprises two conical sections joined at their bases.

  2. Drive System: Typically includes a motor and gearbox to rotate the vessel.

  3. Support Frame: Holds the vessel and allows it to rotate.

  4. Loading and Unloading Ports: For adding materials and discharging the mixed product.

  5. Optional Features: May include intensifier bars for breaking up agglomerates and ensuring uniform mixing.

Working:

  • Materials are loaded into the blender.

  • The vessel rotates around its axis, causing the particles to tumble and cascade.

  • The continuous movement ensures that particles intermix, achieving a homogeneous blend.

  • Once mixing is complete, the blender is stopped, and the contents are discharged.

Uses:

  • Pharmaceuticals: Mixing powders and granules.

  • Food Industry: Blending dry ingredients like spices and baking powders.

  • Chemical Industry: Mixing fine chemicals and dry powders.

Merits:

  • Simple design and operation.

  • Effective for free-flowing powders.

  • Minimal heat generation, suitable for heat-sensitive materials.

  • Gentle mixing action, preserving particle integrity.

Demerits:

  • Not suitable for sticky or cohesive materials.

  • Limited mixing efficiency for very fine powders or particles with large density differences.

  • Requires regular maintenance to ensure smooth operation.
