Definition

  • Dried human plasma (also called lyophilized plasma) is plasma that has been freeze-dried to allow long-term storage without refrigeration.

Production Process

1) Plasma Collection

  • Plasma is separated from whole blood via centrifugation.

2) Sterilization & Testing

  • Plasma is filtered and tested for infections.

3) Lyophilization (Freeze-Drying)

  • Plasma is frozen and then subjected to vacuum drying to remove water.

  • This process preserves proteins, clotting factors, and immunoglobulins.

4) Packaging & Storage

  • Stored in vacuum-sealed containers at room temperature.

  • Reconstituted with sterile water before transfusion.
