Mechanism of Action:

  • Hyoscyamine is a tropane alkaloid and muscarinic antagonist that blocks the action of acetylcholine at parasympathetic sites in smooth muscle, secretory glands, and the CNS.

Uses:

  • It is used to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Side Effects:

  • Side effects include dry mouth, blurred vision, urinary retention, constipation, confusion, and tachycardia.
