Mechanism of Action:
Indomethacin is a potent non-selective COX inhibitor. It effectively reduces prostaglandin synthesis, providing strong anti-inflammatory effects.
Uses:
Used primarily as an anti-inflammatory agent in various conditions like arthritis, gout, and bursitis. It's also used to close patent ductus arteriosus, a heart defect in premature infants.
Side Effects:
It can cause gastrointestinal irritation, risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, renal impairment, and central nervous system effects such as headache and dizziness.
