Uses:

  • Iodoquinol is primarily used to treat amoebic dysentery caused by Entamoeba histolytica. It is also used as an alternative treatment for other intestinal parasitic infections, such as giardiasis and balantidiasis.

Side effects:

  • Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain), skin rash, and itching. In rare cases, it may cause optic neuritis, peripheral neuropathy, or thyroid dysfunction.
