Mechanism of Action

  • Inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial replication.

Uses

  • UTIs, prostatitis, and respiratory infections.

  • Less commonly used due to higher risk of photosensitivity.

Side Effects

  • Severe photosensitivity (more than other fluoroquinolones).

  • GI disturbances, dizziness, headache.

  • Tendon rupture, QT prolongation.
