Mechanism of Action:

  • Loviride is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that works against HIV.

  • NNRTIs bind to a distinct site on the reverse transcriptase enzyme, inducing conformational changes that inhibit the enzyme's ability to synthesize viral DNA from the viral RNA template, thereby preventing viral replication.

Uses:

  • Loviride has been studied for use in combination with other antiretroviral drugs to treat HIV infection. However, it is not approved for use in many countries, including the United States, due to limited efficacy compared to other NNRTIs.

Side Effects:

Some potential side effects of loviride include:

  • Rash

  • Fatigue

  • Headache

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhea
