Chemical formula:
C7H10N2O2S (mafenide), C2H4O2 (acetate)

Mechanism of action:
Mafenide acetate is a sulfonamide derivative that inhibits bacterial dihydropteroate synthase, blocking the synthesis of folate and leading to bacterial cell death.
Uses:
Mafenide acetate is primarily used topically as a cream or solution for the prevention and treatment of infections in burn wounds.
Side effects:
Common side effects include local pain, burning, and itching at the application site. Systemic absorption may cause metabolic acidosis, especially in patients with large burn areas.
