Mechanism of Action:

  • Meprobamate works primarily at the GABA-A receptor, producing an anxiolytic effect.

Uses:

  • It is used to treat anxiety, tension, and associated muscle spasms. However, it has largely been replaced by benzodiazepines due to their lower risk of overdose.

Side Effects:

  • Side effects can include drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, and, in severe cases, dependence and withdrawal symptoms.
