Metoprolol is a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker. It reduces heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart.
Uses:
Metoprolol is used for treating hypertension, angina, heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death after a heart attack. It's also used in the treatment of hyperthyroidism and migraine prophylaxis.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include bradycardia, fatigue, depression, and cold extremities. In some patients, it can exacerbate asthma or other bronchospastic diseases.
