Mechanism of action:
Binds to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and inhibits protein synthesis.
Use:
Treats a wide variety of bacterial infections, including acne.
Side effects:
Gastrointestinal upset, dizziness, photosensitivity, tooth discoloration, and potential toxicity in pregnancy. Also can cause vestibular disturbances and autoimmune problems.
