Mechanism of Action:

  • Naphazoline is an alpha-adrenergic agonist with vasoconstrictive properties.

  • When applied topically to mucous membranes, it causes constriction of blood vessels, leading to decreased swelling and congestion.

Uses:

  • It's commonly found in over-the-counter eye drops and nasal sprays for the temporary relief of redness and swelling.

Side Effects:

  • Prolonged use can lead to rebound congestion and potential dependency.

  • Other side effects may include temporary burning, stinging, and dryness of the nasal passages or eyes.
