Mechanism of action:

  • Norfloxacin, like other fluoroquinolones, inhibits bacterial DNA replication by targeting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.

Uses:

  • Norfloxacin is used to treat urinary tract infections, prostatitis, and some sexually transmitted infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Side effects:

  • Side effects can include gastrointestinal disturbances, CNS effects (e.g., headache, dizziness), phototoxicity, tendonitis or tendon rupture, and hypersensitivity reactions.
