Mechanism of Action:
Phenacetin has analgesic and antipyretic properties. Its exact mechanism of action is not fully understood but is thought to involve inhibition of COX enzymes and possibly other mechanisms in the central nervous system.
Uses:
Historically used for its analgesic and antipyretic effects. However, it is no longer commonly used due to safety concerns.
Side Effects:
Linked to kidney damage (analgesic nephropathy) and also associated with increased risk of certain cancers and hematological effects.
