Mechanism of Action:
Phenobarbital works by enhancing the activity of the neurotransmitter GABA, which inhibits the activity of the nervous system, leading to effects such as sedation and hypnosis.
Uses:
It's used primarily as an anticonvulsant to control seizures. It can also be used for the short-term treatment of insomnia.
Side Effects:
It can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and, in more serious cases, respiratory depression.
