Principle of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS)

Principle:

  • Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy operates on the principle that free atoms in the gaseous state can absorb light of specific wavelengths, leading to the excitation of electrons from the ground state to a higher energy state.

  • The amount of light absorbed is directly proportional to the number of atoms in the sample, which in turn relates to the concentration of the specific metal in the sample.
