Relative Humidity

Definition:

Relative humidity (RH) is the ratio of the current amount of water vapor in the air to the maximum amount of water vapor the air can hold at that temperature, expressed as a percentage.

Formula:

Formula of Relative Humidity

Importance:

  1. Weather Forecasting: RH is a key parameter in meteorology for predicting fog, dew, and precipitation.

  2. Agriculture: Influences plant transpiration and irrigation needs.

  3. Everyday Life: Affects indoor air quality and comfort levels in homes and workplaces.

Measurement:

  • Hygrometers are used to measure RH.

Example of Relative Humidity:

  • If the air temperature is 30°C and the air contains half the amount of water vapor it can hold at that temperature, the relative humidity is 50%.
