Constitution of Pharmacy Councils
Each state government constitutes a State Pharmacy Council.
Membership typically includes:
Elected pharmacists from the state.
Nominees of the state government (representing the medical and pharmaceutical field).
One member nominated by the State Medical Council.
Functions:
Registration of Pharmacists in the respective state.
Regulation of Pharmacy Practice: Enforce professional conduct, maintain state register, and ensure compliance with the PCI’s education regulations.
Investigation of Complaints: Handle complaints regarding professional misconduct.
Renewal/Cancellation of Registration: Update pharmacist registration status periodically.
Joint State Pharmacy Councils:
Formed by an agreement between two or more states, typically to cover regions with smaller populations or shared resources.
Functions are similar to a State Pharmacy Council but operate across multiple states.
