Constitution of Pharmacy Councils

  • Each state government constitutes a State Pharmacy Council.

  • Membership typically includes:

  • Elected pharmacists from the state.

  • Nominees of the state government (representing the medical and pharmaceutical field).

  • One member nominated by the State Medical Council.

Functions:

  • Registration of Pharmacists in the respective state.

  • Regulation of Pharmacy Practice: Enforce professional conduct, maintain state register, and ensure compliance with the PCI’s education regulations.

  • Investigation of Complaints: Handle complaints regarding professional misconduct.

  • Renewal/Cancellation of Registration: Update pharmacist registration status periodically.

Joint State Pharmacy Councils:

  • Formed by an agreement between two or more states, typically to cover regions with smaller populations or shared resources.

  • Functions are similar to a State Pharmacy Council but operate across multiple states.
