Mechanism of action:
Thiabendazole is a benzimidazole that works by inhibiting the polymerization of tubulin in the parasite, disrupting microtubule formation and interfering with glucose uptake, ultimately leading to the death of the worm.
Uses:
Thiabendazole is used to treat various roundworm infections, including strongyloidiasis, trichinosis, and larva migrans (cutaneous and visceral).
Side effects:
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and headache. Other side effects may include skin rash, itching, and liver enzyme elevation. In rare cases, it may cause blood dyscrasias, such as neutropenia or agranulocytosis.
