Mechanism of Action:

  • Xylometazoline works similarly to oxymetazoline as an alpha-adrenergic agonist.

  • It causes vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, leading to decreased edema and nasal congestion.

Uses:

  • It is used for the relief of nasal congestion in conditions like the common cold, sinusitis, and allergic rhinitis.

Side Effects:

  • The side effects are similar to those of other nasal decongestants, including temporary discomfort, stinging, dryness of the nasal passages, and with prolonged use, rebound congestion.
