    • Using zinc metal: Zn + H2SO4 → ZnSO4 + H2

    • Using zinc oxide: ZnO + H2SO4 → ZnSO4 + H2O

    • Using zinc carbonate: ZnCO3 + H2SO4 → ZnSO4 + CO2 + H2O

Properties

  • A white, odorless, crystalline powder.

  • Soluble in water.

  • Commonly found as a heptahydrate (ZnSO₄·7H₂O), known as white vitriol.

Uses

  1. Astringent: Used in lotions, eye drops, and creams.
