Looking for Heredity Class 10 notes PDF? Begin with the key terms, then practise genetic crosses instead of memorising ratios alone. FirstHope's chapter notes and NCERT solutions are linked below.

Remember these ideas

  • Genes and alleles: genes help determine inherited characteristics; alleles are alternative forms of a gene.
  • Genotype and phenotype: genotype describes the allele combination, while phenotype describes the observable characteristic.
  • Dominant and recessive: a dominant allele can be expressed in a heterozygote. Dominant does not automatically mean more common in a population.
  • Mendel's crosses: label the parents, gametes and offspring clearly before finding a ratio. Revise the human sex-determination example in your textbook too.

Practise without looking

  • Draw a Tt × Tt cross under complete dominance. Find both genotype and phenotype ratios.
  • Explain why acquired changes are generally not inherited in the same way as genetic traits.
  • Distinguish a gene, an allele and a chromosome.

Check your answers using the solutions PDF, then redraw any incorrect cross from a blank page.
