All locomotion involves movement. Some movements, such as blinking, do not change an organism’s location. Use that distinction to start this quick revision of NCERT Locomotion and Movement.

What to revise

  • Muscle types: Skeletal muscle is striated and usually voluntary. Smooth muscle is non-striated and involuntary. Cardiac muscle is striated and involuntary.
  • Sliding filament model: Calcium exposes binding sites on actin. Myosin pulls the thin filaments past the thick filaments, shortening the sarcomere. ATP helps power the cross-bridge cycle.
  • Skeleton and joints: The axial skeleton forms the body’s central framework. The appendicular skeleton includes the limbs and their girdles. Compare the elbow’s hinge joint with the shoulder’s ball-and-socket joint.

Quick self-test: What happens to the A band when a sarcomere shortens? It stays the same length. For more diagrams and practice, open the official NCERT chapter PDF and FirstHope Class 11 Biology notes. You can also download a FirstHope handwritten notes sample PDF.
