Mechanism of Action

  • Binds to ergosterol, disrupting fungal membrane integrity and causing leakage of ions.

Uses of Nystatin

  • Topical and oral candidiasis (thrush, diaper rash, vaginal yeast infections).

Side Effects

  • Minimal with topical use.
  • GI upset with oral use (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).
