Mechanism of Action

  • Inhibits lanosterol 14α-demethylase, preventing ergosterol formation.

Uses of Fluconazole

  • Candidiasis (oral, esophageal, vaginal, systemic).
  • Cryptococcal meningitis (especially in HIV patients).
  • Dermatophytosis and fungal UTIs.

Side Effects

  • Hepatotoxicity, GI upset.
  • QT prolongation, alopecia (long-term use).
